The Via Lattea / Milky Way ski area isn't just a paradise in winter, it's also full of amazing activities in summer. And with an e-bike the mountains open up to everyone, no matter what your fitness level.
If you’re looking for one of the most spectacular high-mountain routes in Piemonte, the Via dell’Assietta should be at the top of your list. This historic military road runs along the ridge between Sauze d'Oulx, Sestriere and Pian dell’Alpe, offering breathtaking views across the Val di Susa on one side and the Val Chisone on the other.
🚲 Why E-Bike the Via dell’Assietta?
To access the Via dell’Assietta from Sauze d'Oulx you'll first climb 500m up to 2000m and then undulates its entire length of over 30km, making it a challenging ride on a traditional mountain bike. But with an e-bike, the long climbs become far more enjoyable, so you can focus on the views instead of just grinding up gravel.
📅 Good to know: every summer, the road is closed to motor traffic on Wednesdays and Saturdays — the perfect days to ride an e-bike. Just you, cowbells 🐮, fresh air and the mountains 🏔️.
🏍 A Famous Motorbiking Route
The Assietta is also one of the most iconic motorbike trails in the Alps. One of our recent guests at The Hideaway Apartments brought his bike specifically to ride this legendary ridge. Twisting gravel roads, huge skies and history at every corner — it’s unforgettable.

🍴 Where to Eat Along the Way
Of course, you can take a picnic and there are plenty of gorgeous spots to stop along the way. But if you fancy something a bit more substantial, or an icy cold beer, here are our favourites.
🏚️ Rifugio Casa Assietta - Jack Canali
Be Aware - Cash Only
At the far end of the route at 2,509 m, this historic rifugio feels like it’s in the absolute middle of nowhere. Once a cantoniera (road house) from the 1890s, today it serves hearty mountain dishes, coffee ☕, cakes 🍰 and beers 🍺!
🐻 Orso Bianco - Sportinia - Sauze d'Oulx
Just above Sportinia, Orso Bianco is a summer hub with sun loungers, volleyball, trampoline fun for kids, and plenty of amazing local food and drink options. It’s the spot for a lively atmosphere before or after tackling the Assietta.
🏡 Back to The Hideaway
After the ride, come back to The Hideaway Apartments for a long soak in the tub and a glass of Piedmontese wine 🍷 on your terrace.
